What is a Chemical Peel?
Peels are a cosmetic procedure that can be applied in different strengths to the face, hands and neck. Chemical peels are used to remove damaged skin cells and reveal the healthy cells beneath for improved appearance and texture. A chemical solution will be applied to the desired area, which will cause the skin to exfoliate and finally, peel off.
Which Type of Peel Should I Pick?
There are 3 types of peels: superficial, medium and deep. A superficial peel will exfoliate the skin gently and only reaches the outermost layer of skin. A medium peel is best for damaged skin, as it reaches the middle and outer layers of skin. A deep peel fully penetrates the middle layer of skin making it the most intense but most effective at removing damaged skin cells. You will be sedated for a deep peel.
What’s Recovery Like?
A light peel may only cause the skin to appear flakey and dry as it takes 4-7 days to heal; a medium peel takes 5-7 days, and a deep peel will take about 2 weeks for the new skin to develop.
