Understanding Cosmetic Injectables: A Comprehensive Guide
From a Top 1% Nurse Injector
As a seasoned cosmetic injector, I’ve spent over a decade helping patients look and feel their best using the art and science of cosmetic injectables. These minimally invasive treatments can refine, restore, and rejuvenate your appearance with natural-looking results.
This guide will walk you through all the various types of injectables, their benefits, and how they can be customized to meet your aesthetic goals. Ranked in the top 1% of cosmetic injectors in the nation, I take a holistic approach to cosmetic injectables, which is why I developed the TryTOX® Methods, the most advanced techniques combining the artistry of dermal fillers and the precision of neurotoxins to deliver unparalleled results for every client.
What Are Cosmetic Injectables?
Cosmetic injectables include a wide variety of treatments that address facial aging, volume loss, skin laxity, texture, hydration, and even fat reduction. As a nurse injector, I use my clinical expertise and artistic eye to safely deliver results that are refreshed—not overdone.
1. Neuromodulators (Botulinum Toxin Type A-Based)
Neuromodulators, also known as neurotoxins are ideal for treating dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements. These products temporarily relax targeted muscles, softening expression lines and preventing new wrinkles from forming.
Used for:
Forehead lines
Frown lines ("11s") between the brows
Crow's feet around the eyes
Bunny lines on the nose
Lip flips
Chin dimpling
Neck bands (platysmal bands)
Jaw slimming
Products:
Botox®: The original and most recognized brand; delivers consistent, precise results.
Dysport®: Spreads more easily—ideal for larger areas like the forehead.
Xeomin®: A “naked” neurotoxin without added proteins—good for patients with resistance.
Jeuveau®: Marketed as “Newtox”; formulated for aesthetic use only.
Daxxify®: Offers extended longevity—up to 6 months or more.
2. Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers restore lost volume, contour features, and smooth wrinkles. Each type has unique properties, tailored to specific areas of the face.
A. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers
HA fillers are reversible, flexible, and hydrating. They're ideal for enhancing lips, cheeks, under-eyes, and smoothing fine lines.
Uses:
Lip enhancement
Cheek and midface volume
Under-eye hollow correction
Jawline contouring
Nasolabial folds and marionette lines
Brands:
Juvederm®: Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Vollure, Volbella
Restylane®: Silk, Lyft, Kysse, Refyne, Defyne, L
Belotero®: Balance for superficial lines; Revive for hydration
Teosyal®: RHA Collection (dynamic areas), Ultra Deep (structure), Kiss (lips)
B. Calcium Hydroxylapatite
Radiesse®: Great for deeper folds, jawline sculpting, and hand rejuvenation. Also stimulates collagen.
C. Poly-L-Lactic Acid
Sculptra® Aesthetic: Stimulates collagen production over time; ideal for temples, cheeks, jawline, and glutes.
D. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)
Bellafill®: Semi-permanent filler for deep wrinkles and acne scars.
E. Autologous Fat Transfer
Fat is harvested from your own body and reinjected. Excellent for natural, long-term volume restoration.
F. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Uses your own growth factors to improve skin tone, texture, and hair growth. Often combined with microneedling.
G. Specialty & Emerging Fillers
Profhilo®: High-concentration HA for skin tightening and hydration
Ellansé®: Offers collagen stimulation and volume
Stylage®: HA with antioxidants to fight oxidative stress
3. Biostimulators
These injectables stimulate your body to produce its own collagen over time, improving skin quality and volume gradually. Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable that helps replace lost collagen with results that can last up to 2 years.
Unlike other dermal fillers, Sculptra stimulates your skin’s natural collagen production to restore overall youthful volume. This creates a more natural, longer, lasting look over time. Biostimulators are a “go-to” celebrity treatment. When you see celebrities over 50 that look amazingly more youthful, Sculptra is the reason.
Uses:
Midface volume loss
Temples
Lower face laxity
Jawline contouring
Products:
Sculptra® Aesthetic
Radiesse® (when diluted as a hyperdilute biostimulator)
4. Injectable Skin Boosters
Lightweight HA-based injectables that hydrate and plump skin without adding volume.
Best for:
Dull, dehydrated skin
Fine lines
Neck and hand rejuvenation
Examples:
Restylane Skinboosters
Volite (Juvederm)
Profhilo®
5. Kybella® (Deoxycholic Acid)
Kybella® is an FDA-approved injectable, and one of the most advanced non-surgical treatments available at Esthetic Solutions to permanently destroy fat cells in targeted areas, resulting in a smoother, more sculpted appearance.
Kybella could be your new secret weapon to target these areas:
Submental (under-chin) fullness
Jawline definition
Banana rolls
Bra bulges
Inner and outer thigh contouring
Under-breast rolls
Abdominal sculpting
Knee fat and inner elbow
6. PDO Threads
Not a filler, but injectable nonetheless, PDO threads lift and tighten the skin by creating a collagen scaffold.
Used for:
Jawline lift
Eyebrow lift
Neck tightening
Lower face support
7. Mesotherapy Injectables
Microinjections of non-crosslinked HA, vitamins, and peptides designed to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.
Options:
NCTF (Filorga): Skin revitalization
Aquagold® Fine Touch: Infuses a custom blend of nutrients and toxins through microchannels
8. Other Injectable Treatments
Renuva®: Replaces fat and regenerates tissue for natural contour
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin): Longer-lasting alternative to PRP with sustained release of growth factors
Botox for Hyperhidrosis: Treats excessive sweating in the underarms, hands, and feet
9. Peptide-Based Injectables
Cytocare and Xela Rederm combine peptides with HA to target pigmentation, skin laxity, and aging.
10. Combined Fillers + Toxin Therapy
My TryTOX® Method is a combination injectable therapy, and is one of the most effective approaches for achieving full-face rejuvenation with natural, harmonious results. By blending the strengths of neuromodulators and dermal fillers, we can address both muscle-driven expression lines and volume-related aging in one comprehensive treatment plan.
Why Combination Therapy Works
Neuromodulators (like Botox,) relax muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles—those fine lines and folds that deepen with expression.
Dermal fillers (like Juvederm, Restylane, and Sculptra) replace lost volume, restore facial contours, and smooth static lines that appear even when your face is at rest.
What Areas Benefit Most?
Upper face: Smooth forehead lines with Botox while using filler in the temples to restore youthful contours.
Eyes: Treat crow’s feet with a neuromodulator and under-eye hollows (tear troughs) with HA filler for a rested, bright-eyed look.
Midface: Combine cheek filler with neuromodulators around the eyes and brows for a lifted, refreshed appearance.
Lips: Use Botox for a subtle lip flip and filler to enhance volume and definition.
Lower face: Botox softens chin dimpling or downturned corners of the mouth, while filler restores structure to the jawline and smooths marionette lines and nasolabial folds.
Neck and jawline: Combine neuromodulators to relax vertical neck bands and jawline fillers for a sculpted look.
Benefits of Combined Treatments
Balanced, natural-looking results: Rather than focusing on a single concern, combination therapy rejuvenates the face holistically.
Prevention + correction: Neurotoxins prevent wrinkles from worsening, while fillers address volume loss and contour.
Customizable & efficient: Treatments can be done together in one session, tailored precisely to your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.
Longer-lasting synergy: Toxin and filler combinations often enhance each other’s longevity and appearance.
